Markdown versions of documentation pages are available by appending `.md` to page URLs; this page is available as [Markdown](https://docs.alemba.com/asm-hermes/setup-and-configure-asm/configuring-your-system/system-administration-settings/preview-features-advanced-options/settings/multi-language/languages.md).

# Languages

Users can change their preferred language at any time using the language option in the Self Service Portal banner. While Language Translation will translate the text the Agents and user enter, it does not translate field labels and the names of services on the portal.

> For example, Say you have a a label for ***Request History.*** If you are displaying the portal in Spanish, we will want these labels, in most cases, to also be translated and read instead ***Historial de Solicitudes,***

The option a user has to change languages is visible on the login page, and from within the Self Service Portal. English is selected by default. When a different language is selected the Self Service Portal refreshes to display in the preferred language and the labels you have translated will also be updated to reflect what you have configured using the following 2 pages:

* **Portal Label Language Update**
* **Service Title Language Updates**

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.alemba.com/asm-hermes/setup-and-configure-asm/configuring-your-system/system-administration-settings/preview-features-advanced-options/settings/multi-language/languages.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
