Service Portfolio Statuses
You can define service portfolio statuses that Analysts can apply to service entities within the Criticality and Status section of the CMDB Item Details window.

An entity's service portfolio status reflects its lifecycle phase and visibility on the Self Service Portal, for example, Pipeline, Service Request Catalog, and Retired.
Service Portfolio Status plays a critical role in managing the lifecycle of services in the service catalog. It enables organizations to track and manage the evolution of their service offerings from conception through to retirement. By defining various statuses, such as Pipeline, Service Request Catalog, and Retired, organizations can effectively communicate the availability and visibility of services on the Self Service Portal to both internal stakeholders and end-users.
During the portfolio lifecycle and release management processes, these statuses allow for clear delineation of phases. Services in the Pipeline status are in the development or planning phase and not yet available to end-users. Once a service is fully developed and tested, it moves to the Service Request Catalog status, indicating it is available for end-users to request via the Self Service Portal. Eventually, as services become obsolete or replaced, they are moved to the Retired status, signaling they are no longer available for new requests.
Implementing these statuses within a CMDB (Configuration Management Database) ensures that changes to services are tracked, managed, and communicated effectively throughout their lifecycle. This approach not only aids in portfolio management but also in streamlining release management processes by providing clear milestones for service development, availability, and retirement.
Creating a Service Portfolio Status
Select the Menu button, then Admin, and then select System Administration. The System Administration window is displayed.
In the Explorer pane expand CMDB.
Select Service Portfolio Statuses to open the window.
Existing portfolio statuses are displayed in a browse table, along with an indicator to show whether items with this status appear in the portal.
You may like to adjust the column widths to see all of the columns.
Select the New icon. A new row is added to the browse table.
In the Name field on the blank row, type the name of the new Service Portfolio Status.
To display the service entities flagged with this portfolio status on the Self Service Portal, select the checkbox in the Self Service Portal column.
Selecting the Self Service Portal Checkbox will allow any Service Action with this status to be "published" to the portal.
This option is selected by default if Service – Self Service Portal Default is selected in the CMDB Settings but you can override that setting by deselecting it here if you wish.
Repeat for each status you want to create.
Save the changes.
Provide the Change Reasons if prompted to do so.
You can change the display order of the service portfolio statuses in the table. To do so, select a status and use the up or down icon to change its position in the table.
Renaming a Service Portfolio Status
Select the Menu button, then Admin, and then select System Administration. The System Administration window is displayed.
In the Explorer pane expand CMDB.
Select Service Portfolio Statuses to open the window.

Select the name of the Service Portfolio Status you want to rename.
Overtype with the new name.
Save the changes.
Provide the Change Reasons if prompted to do so.
You can change the display order of the service portfolio statuses in the table. To do so, select a status and use the up or down icon to change its position in the table.
Deleting a Service Portfolio Status
You cannot reverse this procedure. If you delete a Service Portfolio Status by mistake, you have to re-create the entry by creating a new Service Portfolio Status.
Select the Menu button, then Admin, and then select System Administration. The System Administration window is displayed.
In the Explorer pane expand CMDB.
Select Service Portfolio Statuses to open the window.
Existing portfolio statuses are displayed in a browse table, along with an indicator to show whether items with this status appear in the portal.

Select the service portfolio status entry you want to delete.
Select the delete icon. If you attempt to delete the system default, you will receive a warning message.
Save the changes.
Provide the Change Reasons if prompted to do so.
