Asset Management - License Type

You can define different license types for Analysts to use when adding the details of Transactions made against Software Products.

Explanation of License Types

In the context of Asset Management Transactions, License Types are categories or classifications of software licenses that determine how a software product can be used. Different types of licenses come with their own sets of permissions, restrictions, and terms of use. Understanding the various license types is crucial for managing software assets efficiently and ensuring compliance with software usage policies.

Examples of License Types

  1. Single-User License: Permits the software to be installed and used on a single computer/device. Ideal for individual users.

  2. Volume License: Allows the purchase of software licenses in bulk, often at a discounted rate. Suitable for organizations that need to install a software on multiple devices.

  3. Concurrent License: This type of license is based on the number of simultaneous users accessing the software, rather than the number of installations.

  4. Site License: Provides unlimited use of the software within a specific geographical location. This is common in educational institutions.

  5. Enterprise License Agreement (ELA): A contractual arrangement where an organization agrees to purchase licenses for numerous software products from a single vendor. It's beneficial for large organizations for cost savings and simplified management.

  6. Subscription License: Allows use of the software for a specific time period. After which, the license must be renewed.

Understanding these license types aids in making informed decisions when adding transaction details against Software Products in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
