CMDB Link Status

You can create a link between CMDB items, and assign a link status to provide information, such as whether the link is active or frozen.

In the context of a Configuration Management Database (CMDB), the Link Status represents the current state of a relationship between two Configuration Items (CIs). This key attribute helps in understanding the dependencies and associations among various entities within an IT environment.

  • Active: Indicates that the relationship between the CIs is currently operational and relevant.

  • Inactive: Signifies that the relationship is currently not in use or has been temporarily suspended.

  • Planned: This status is used for relationships that are intended to be established in the future.

  • Deprecated: Marks a relationship that is no longer recommended for use and may be phased out.

Understanding the Link Status is crucial for maintaining an effective CMDB, as it impacts change management, incident management, and the overall IT service management strategy.

You can define whatever link statuses you need for your organization. The following link statuses are provided by default: Authorized, Not Authorized, Discovered, Not Discovered, Confirmed and Stale.
