Displaying Outages

Before you start

You need to have Browse Outages selected in your Availability Management security role to display outages.

  1. Select ≡ and then Search and from the submenu select Outages .

  2. The Outage Search window appears. This window is divided into two panes. You can select the criteria for the search in the left pane, and the results are displayed in the right pane.

  3. Filter your search using the search criteria in the Outage Search Criteria pane.

OpenSelect to include all current outages

Closed

Select to include all closed outages

Unplanned

Select to include all unplanned outages

Planned

Select to include all planned outages

Partition

If you have access to several partitions, select the partition in which the outages will appear

Include Deleted Field Values

Select to include deleted items of the category type you choose below. So, for example, selecting this option and CMDB Item would include all deleted CMDB items in your search

CMDB Item

Select this option to search for outages that have been recorded on the selected CMDB item.

Specify the reference of the linked CMDB Item.

To view linked items affected by the outage, select the record returned by the search and select the CMDB Item Linking icon. ASM Core analyzes all the items linked (higher and lower) to and affected by the outage on the selected item. Only dependent items are analyzed, and those linked items must have availability tracking enabled to be used in the search for outages.

Linked Call No

Specify a call number to view any outages associated with the call.

Linked Request No

Specify a request number to view any outages associated with the request.

Linked Task No

Specify a task number to view any outages associated with the task.

Outage Start Date From

Use the calendar to specify the earliest start date for the outages you wish to view. You can also specify a time in the field to the right of the date field.

Outage Start Date To

Use the calendar to specify the latest start date for the outages you wish to view. You can also specify a time in the field to the right of the date field.

Outage End Date From

Use the calendar to specify the earliest end date for the outages you wish to view. You can also specify a time in the field to the right of the date field.

Outage End Date To

Use the calendar to specify the last end date for the outages you wish to view. You can also specify a time in the field to the right of the date field.

  1. If these criteria are not sufficient, you can select the button at the top of the Outage Search Criteria pane and configure your search criteria to include more or different criteria.

  2. Select Search to display the matching outages in the browse table in the results pane. Clear Form clears any selections to allow you to make a different search.

  3. The search results are displayed in a browse table. You can adjust the column widths if required.

  4. From the browse results table you can carry out further actions. As well as the standard buttons, you can select to view the linking diagram associated with the outage.

You can also view outages for a CMDB item by viewing the Availability details for the item. Outages for a CMDB item appear in the Outage tab.

Viewing Current Outages

You can display all planned and unplanned outages that are currently running using the View option on the menu. Closed outages are not displayed.

Before you start

  1. Select ≡ and then View. From the submenu, select Current Outages. This opens up the Current Outages window. The details are displayed in a browse table. You can adjust the column widths if required.

  2. Filter the displayed outages as necessary, using the options in the left hand pane.

AllThis option displays all current outages

Planned

This option filters the results table to display current outages that are planned. A Planned Outage is an outage that has been scheduled or initiated from a Request or Task.

Unplanned

This option filters the results table to display current outages that are unplanned. An Unplanned Outage is an outage that has been initiated from a Call.

Viewing Linked Entities for an Outage

Linked entities are calls, requests or tasks that are linked to the outage.

To view the linked entities for an outage:

  1. Display the Current Outages window.

  2. Select the current outage for which you want to view the linked entities.

  3. Select . The Outage Quick Search – Linked Entities window appears. The table displays all the entities that are linked to the current outage.

  4. To view details of an entity, select from the Quick Search - Linked Entities window. The Details window for the selected entity appears.
